Eisenach

Eisenach is a town situated at the foot of the Thuringian Forest. It is best known for its landmark, the Wartburg Castle, which has been a UNSECO World Heritage Site since 1999.

The Wartburg, founded by Ludwig the Knight after 1067, was the headquarters of the Landgraves of Thuringia in the Middle Ages. In 1521/22 Luther translated the New Testament here and in 1817 the Wartburg Festival of the German Fraternities took place.
