Erfurt is the state capital of Thuringia. The old city is the largest area monument in Germany and attested with a wealth of preserved buildings, that represent the wealth the trade flow left in Erfurt. Many of the carefully restored Renaissance and timber-frame houses and the churches bear witness to this today.
